No. 2 Heels win finale at home

The second-ranked North Carolina baseball team received a tying home run from Kyle Shelton in the sixth inning and scored three runs in the seventh for a 4-1 win over Winthrop on Tuesday in UNC's regular-season home finale at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

The Tar Heels (43-9) earned their eighth straight nonconference victory.

NO. 20 N.C. STATE 17, N.C. A&T 6: Pat Ferguson, Matt Payne, Marcus Jones and Dallas Poulk each homered and drove in a combined 13 runs to lead the host Wolfpack (36-16) to victory over the Aggies.

N.C. State blew it open with a seven-run eighth, highlighted by Poulk's three-run homer.

DUKE 10, CAMPBELL 5: Host Duke rode five hits and a pair of home runs by Nate Freiman to improve to 27-0 in nonconference play with the win over the Camels.

Campbell (18-34) has lost 10 of its past 11 games.

ELON 16, WAKE FOREST 15: The host Phoenix (39-16) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Demon Deacons.

Ben Terry was 2-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored for Wake Forest (22-28).

EAST CAROLINA 3, UNCW 2: Brandon Henderson broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning with a two-run double, and the Pirates held on for the win over visiting UNC-Wilmington.

ECU (37-16) got consecutive walks from Ryan Wood, Stephen Batts and Corey Kemp to load the bases for Henderson's at-bat. Henderson laced a shot to left field, plating Wood and Batts.
