Inside the game

The Tar Heels (7-3) secured a bowl spot with Saturday's 33-24 win over Miami, giving them consecutive bowl appearances for the first time since 1997 and 1998. The Heels' defense scored two of the team's three touchowns, and kicker Casey Barth did the rest with four field goals. UNC's defense had four interceptions in the team's third straight ACC win after an 0-3 conference start.

Questionable call

There might not be a definitive answer on what actually happened on the combined 90-yard interception return for a touchdown by UNC's Kendric Burney and Melvin Williams, but it sure looked like a forward lateral on the replay.

Game balls

CB Kendric Burney: The junior was responsible for three of UNC's interceptions and had a hand in both defensive touchdowns. His 170 interception return yards set an ACC record.

TE Zack Pianalto: Quietly has caught 16 passes, for 127 yards, in the three games since returning from a foot injury.

Looking ahead

UNC closes the regular season with two road games. The Heels travel to Boston College (7-3) on Saturday and then to N.C. State on Nov. 28. The Heels, 2-1 on the road, face a BC team that is 6-0 at home this season and 4-0 on senior day since joining the ACC. This is UNC's first ACC road game at BC. The Heels pasted the Eagles in Chapel Hill last season, 45-24. UNC coach Butch Davis, going back to his tenure at Miami, is 6-0 against the Eagles. BC (4-2 ACC) still can win the Atlantic Division with two wins and a Clemson loss.
