Pittsburgh linebacker Max Gruder, who played at Charlotte Country Day and who will play against N.C. State on Saturday, is one of many players from North Carolina who left the state to play college football elsewhere.

It could be argued that if you put all those players together, you could field a winning team on the Football Bowl Subdivision level. The "left-the-state" team was compiled after scanning rosters of all the out-of-state FBS schools. (The players' high schools are in parentheses.)

This team would be quite strong on offense and in the secondary but suspect on the defensive front and lacking in depth.

And one of the place-kickers would have to handle the punting.
