Florida's Meyer takes leave of absence

NEW ORLEANS (AP) Florida coach Urban Meyer is taking an indefinite leave of absence instead of resigning and expects to be on the sideline leading the Gators when next season opens.

"I do in my gut believe that will happen," Meyer said Sunday at a Sugar Bowl news conference.

Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will run the team during Meyer's absence, but Meyer will be the coach against No. 4 Cincinnati on New Year's Day.

Gators honor Tebow's speech

Tim Tebow's speech following a home loss to Mississippi last September motivated Florida the rest of the season.

Coach Urban Meyer hopes it can do the same for anyone else in Gainesville.

Meyer had Tebow's speech engraved on a plaque and placed outside the front entrance to the new football facility at Florida Field. Although it might seem like a strange move since Tebow still has one year remaining with the Gators, Meyer said he didn't want to wait.

Bradford's return still iffy

Oklahoma quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford stated in a press conference Tuesday he is making progress in his return to the field but remains uncertain about his status for Saturday's game against Baylor.

"I have a big percentage of that decision, but the coaches are going to watch practice," Bradford said when asked if he was playing this week. "I have to go through the week without any excess soreness...don't take any steps back"

The 19th-ranked Sooners have been without their junior quarterback since he suffered a shoulder joint sprain in their season-opening loss to BYU. They won two straight with redshirt freshman Landry Jones at the helm but dropped a 21-20 decision at Miami-Florida last weekend.

Cowboys' Bryant ineligible

All-America wide receiver Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible by Oklahoma State, four days before the 15th-ranked Cowboys' first Big 12 game.

The university announced Wednesday that Bryant "failed to openly disclose to the NCAA the full details of his interaction with a former NFL player not affiliated with OSU."

Oklahoma State (3-1) said it had already begun the process of asking the NCAA to reinstate Bryant for the violation of bylaw 10.1(d), which prohibits players from knowingly providing false information to the NCAA regarding a possible rules violation.

Bradford set to play Saturday against Baylor

Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford will be the starting quarterback when 19th-ranked Oklahoma hosts Baylor on Saturday.

Bradford has not played since the season-opening loss to BYU when he suffered a sprained right shoulder joint. He has been practicing this week.

"Sam has had a great week of practice and is ready to play," said Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops on Friday. "We're obviously excited to have him back."
