Recap: Duke vs. Wake Forest

Riley Skinner threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 45-34 win over the Duke Blue Devils in an ACC tilt at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Marshall Williams finished with eight catches for 119 yards and a TD for the Demon Deacons (5-7, 3-5 ACC), who end their season on a positive note after dropping five in a row. Devon Brown caught two touchdown passes and finished with 82 yards on eight catches.

The Blue Devils (5-7, 3-5) needed a win to become bowl eligible, but they came up short despite 387 passing yards and three TDs by Thaddeus Lewis. Donovan Varner also had a big game, catching 11 passes for 174 yards and two scores.

Winston-Salem, NC (Sports Network) - Travis Benjamin's 13-yard touchdown catch late in the fourth quarter helped 18th-ranked Miami-Florida take a 28-27 win over Wake Forest at Groves Stadium.

Jacory Harris went 22-for-43 with 330 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for the Hurricanes (6-2, 3-2 ACC), who bounced back from last week's 40-37 overtime loss to Clemson. Aldarius Johnson and Tervaris Johnson each caught a score while Damien Berry had a rushing touchdown.

"Anytime you come off a loss, everybody's lethargic a little bit," said Miami coach Randy Shannon. "But you know, it's a road game - it's a tough road game - and it's our first time being on this field... Let's be honest, it's the first time we've won a game at three o'clock. So now we're one for two at three o'clock. And that was huge for us for psychological reasons because we've been playing so much at night."

GAME NOTES: The 18th-ranked Miami-Florida Hurricanes are set to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in what figures to be a highly competitive ACC battle in Winston-Salem.

It will be interesting to see how Miami responds after last weekend's heartbreaking loss to Clemson in overtime by a 40-37 final. The Hurricanes are now just 2-2 in conference, overshadowing a more impressive 5-2 overall record. The setback at the hands of the Tigers halted a three-game win streak for coach Randy Shannon and company, but there is no question that this once- mighty program is on the rise.

Wake Forest fell to 4-4 on the season with a 13-10 loss to Navy last weekend, the second consecutive setback for the squad. Three of the four losses this season have come by three points for the Demon Deacons, who like Miami, are 2-2 in ACC action. The fact that Wake has scored a grand total of 13 points the last two games after posting at least 21 points in each of the first six outings is troubling.

Wake scores in final seconds, tops Stanford

Riley Skinner plunged into the endzone in the final seconds of regulation to give the Wake Forest Demon Deacons a thrilling, 24-17 victory over the Stanford Cardinal in a non-league matchup at BB&T Field.

Skinner's touchdown capped off a well-orchestrated 11-play, 91-yard drive. The quarterback finished the afternoon with 187 yards and one touchdown through the air on 18-of-26 passing. Wake Forest (1-1) dominated the Cardinal with its rushing attack, rumbling for 251 yards on 5.6 yards per attempt. Josh Adams led the way with 54 yards on eight totes, while wideout Chris Givens added 51 yards on just five carries.

As for Stanford (1-1) the team was paced by Andrew Luck, who threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Whalen, who was on the receiving end of both touchdown passes, finished the game with nine receptions and 123 yards. Stanford's powerful tailback Toby Gerhart was limited to only 82 yards on 17 carries in the setback.
