Three to watch

Terrell Hudgins

Elon's senior wide receiver is just 35 yards away from 4,697 career receiving yards, the mark he needs to break Jerry Rice's FCS record. Future obscure trivia experts will note that he broke the record today against Western Carolina.

Fayetteville State firepower

The Broncos enter today's CIAA football championship game on a roll offensively. In its last five games, Fayetteville State averaged 36.6 points a game with tight end Tyson Gurley and running back Calvin Harris - members of the All-CIAA second team - combining for seven touchdowns.

David Ingram

In N.C. Central's first eight games this season, the Eagles' sophomore cornerback has recorded 16 passes defended, with 13 pass break-ups and three interceptions. Heading into today's game at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., N.C. Central is coming off a 53-22 win over Central State that featured five pass break-ups and an interception by Ingram.

Observation

Leave it to the kickers

Campbell's trip to Des Moines, Iowa, today to face Drake (7-1, 5-0) features the top two kickers in the Pioneer Football League. Drake's Brandon Wubs has 59 points (12 field goals and 23 extra points) this season, while Adam Willets of Campbell (2-6, 1-4) has 38 points (eight field goals and 14 extra points). As far as season-long field goals, go, Wubs has Willets by a yard, 45 to 44.

Don't miss

Bowie State vs. Fayetteville State

1 p.m., Durham County Stadium, Durham

After Bowie State (6-4, 5-2 CIAA) stumbled last week and lost 14-12 to Virginia State after a failed two-point conversion attempt, it took a coin toss to break the three-way tie atop the CIAA's Eastern Division. The coin was kind to the Bulldogs, who now must face Fayetteville State (7-3, 6-1) in the CIAA championship game.

Chattanooga at Appalachian State

3:30 p.m., Kidd Brewer Stadium, Boone

The Mountaineers (6-2, 5-0 Southern Conference) have won 18 of their last 20 games against Chattanooga (5-3, 3-3), and there's little reason to believe that trend stops today. Appalachian State leads the conference with 39 points a game, and quarterback Armanti Edwards had a monster performance last week - 461 yards in total offense and six touchdowns in a 52-27 win over Furman.
