Brandon Chandler
In helping Campbell to its first conference road win in school history, the defensive back was named the Pioneer Football League defensive player of the week. The Kernersville native intercepted two passes in a 17-3 victory over Valparaiso. Campbell hosts Jacksonville at 1 p.m. today.
Scott Riddle
The Elon junior quarterback is closing in on the Southern Conference record for passing yards. The Ramseur native is now the league's all-time leader in career completions (842) and TD passes (76). He is second to Appalachian State's Armanti Edwards for the league lead in passing yards, with 9,446 yards to Edwards' 9,605 yards.

The Appalachian State junior defensive back earned Southern Conference defensive player of the week honors for his performance in a 27-10 victory over Elon last week. He hauled in two first-quarter interceptions that led to touchdowns. He leads the conference with six picks.
Observations
Mountaineers assistant honored
Appalachian State defensive ends coach Mark Speir has been named the 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association. A coach for the Mountaineers for seven seasons, he has also served as recruiting coordinator since 2004.
ECSU to play in Pioneer Bowl
Elizabeth City State will face Tuskegee in the 11th annual Pioneer Bowl on Dec. 5 at Charlie W. Johnson Stadium in Columbia, S.C. ECSU will represent the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while Tuskegee represents the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pioneer Bowl is the only NCAA sanctioned bowl game involving HBCU athletic conferences.

These schools meet on senior day. As the Eagles honor five seniors - fullback Saeed Abdul-Azeez, defensive back Derek Harvey, offensive lineman Gabriel Manns, receiver Will Scott and linebacker Alex Winters - they look to end a tough season with a win. The Eagles own a 3-0-1 lead in the all-time series, after the two teams played to a tie in 1974.

The Mountaineers (8-2, 7-0 Southern Conference) have secured their fifth consecutive conference title and earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division I FCS postseason tournament. Each team is vying for the annual Battle for the Old Mountain Jug trophy, which is a 25-pound relic.
