Bible doesn't make trip with N.C. State

N.C. State offensive coordinator Dana Bible did not make the trip to Virginia Tech for today's 3:30 p.m. game, school sports information director Annabelle Myers said this afternoon.

Bible is undergoing medical tests of an undisclosed nature, Myers said. Running backs coach Jason Swepson will move from his usual position on the field up to the coaches' box and call plays for the Wolfpack.

Bible, 56, also coaches quarterbacks and wide receivers for the Wolfpack. He has been a member of Tom O'Brien's staff since 1999 at Boston College, and previously served as quarterbacks and wide receivers coach at N.C. State from 1983-85 under head coach Tom Reed.

N.C. State offensive coordinator Dana Bible, a coaching mainstay on sidelines and press box perches for more than three decades, has been hospitalized with leukemia, head coach Tom O'Brien said Monday.

Bible, 56, will spend 30 days undergoing treatment at the cancer center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

"At the end of 30 days I guess we'll know where we go from there," O'Brien said. "He's still undergoing tests. It's certainly not a good situation."

Wolfpack still carries hope for good finish

N.C. State's players don't sound like they have given up, even though they've lost four straight games.

"There's still hope," wide receiver Jarvis Williams said Monday, reminding reporters that the Wolfpack can become bowl eligible if they win their final four games.

"We've got to find the solution and get it rolling," safety Clem Johnson said. "And I think we definitely will get it rolling."

BLACKSBURG, Va. - With his senior season unraveling, N.C. State team captain Jeraill McCuller looked ahead to the upcoming season finale with rival North Carolina.

It will be the last time McCuller puts on a Wolfpack jersey. The second-to-last time had been a disaster Saturday, with four turnovers and third-down defensive failures resulting in a 38-10 defeat against 16th-ranked Virginia Tech.

"It turned out to be a tragedy today," McCuller said.
