UNC Spring football

BEGINS: Today

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC: No

SPRING GAME: 1 p.m. April 5 Kenan Stadium, Chapel Hill

STORYLINE: Coach Butch Davis begins his second spring with 43 returning lettermen, a new defensive coordinator (Everett Withers) and a great big question mark at quarterback. T.J. Yates, who set numerous school records as a freshman starter last season, won't practice in the spring because he is still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery. That could leave Mike Paulus and Cameron Sexton an opening to impress the coaches, then duke it out with Yates for the starting slot come fall.

Per NCAA rules, teams must complete their 15 spring practices within 34 calendar days. UNC will practice this week, take a week off for spring break, then practice for three more weeks.
