Tar Heels to face Wolf Pack

Nevada will host North Carolina in a nationally televised basketball game on New Year's Eve.

Nevada coach Mark Fox announced Wednesday that UNC is an opponent on the 2008-09 schedule.

Tip-off for the game has not been set. Nevada spokeswoman Rhonda Lundin said it's expected to be a night game.

FORMER DUKE GUARD DIES: A point guard who helped lead Duke to the 1978 NCAA championship game has died.

The school said John Harrell died Monday. He was 50. No cause of death was reported.

Harrell transferred to Duke from N.C. Central and played for the Blue Devils from 1977 to 1979, helping them to a 48-15 record and a 17-7 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

He averaged 5.1 points in 1977-78 season.

INDIANA LOSES TWO SCHOLARSHIPS: Indiana University will give up two basketball scholarships for the upcoming season in anticipation of penalties related to the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate, assistant athletic director Frank Cuervo confirmed Wednesday.

HOKIES RECEIVER OUT FOR SEASON: Brandon Dillard, a redshirt junior wide receiver expected to contend for playing time for the Virginia Tech football team this season, will instead miss the season after rupturing his right Achilles' tendon in player-organized offseason workouts.

MICHIGAN'S GRADY ARRESTED: Michigan running back Kevin Grady was arrested early Wednesday and will be arraigned next week on a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.
