North Carolina center Tyler Hansbrough can add the ACC male athlete of the year award to his well-stocked trophy case.
The ACC announced Tuesday that basketball star Hansbrough and Virginia Tech softball pitcher Angela Tincher are the conference's athletes of the year. Sixty-seven members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association voted on the awards.
Hansbrough received 28 votes. He was the consensus national player of the year and most valuable player of the ACC Tournament and NCAA East Regional. He averaged 22.6 points, the most by a UNC player since 1970.

BASKETBALLTAR HEELS DONATE $110,000: The North Carolina men's basketball team donated a total of $110,000 to eight different local charitable organizations from funds raised through the sale of autographed basketballs and the team's annual holiday clinic.
The money was split among the pediatric hematology/oncology trust fund at UNC Hospitals, the Carolina Covenant, the Ronald McDonald House, the InterFaith Council, the Special Olympics of North Carolina, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Orange County, the Chapel Hill/Carrboro School Foundation and the State Employees Credit Union Family House at UNC Hospitals.

FOOTBALLBCS EYES NEXT TV DEAL: ACC commissioner John Swofford said Tuesday the Bowl Championship Series will begin negotiations for a new football television contract later this fall.
Fox has the rights for two more years, and will have an exclusive 30-day window to try to extend the deal.

BRIEFLY: The Iowa Board of Regents has reopened its investigation into how the University of Iowa handled an investigation into the alleged assault of a woman by two football players.
* The Sun Belt Conference announced that it has signed deals with the St. Petersburg Bowl, the Papajohns.com Bowl and the PetroSun Independence Bowl.
* UCLA tailback Christian Ramirez won't play for the Bruins this year because he didn't meet NCAA eligibility requirements.
