The San Francisco 49ers signed defensive lineman Kentwan Balmer to a five-year contract Thursday, getting their first-round draft pick into camp a few hours before their first team meeting.
Balmer, a late-blooming star at North Carolina, was the 29th overall pick in April. He is the last of the 49ers' six draft picks to sign.
"It was definitely important for me to be here Day One, and that was something my agent and myself both stressed," Balmer said at the 49ers' training complex in Santa Clara, Calif. "I'm sure the team was eager to hear that as well, and we got it done as expected."
ARIZONA: Wide receiver Anquan Boldin lashed out at the organization for failing to follow through on what he said was a promise for a new contract. Boldin said he told agent Drew Rosenhaus to end negotiations and that he would not re-sign with the team.

Besides Hardy, a receiver who was selected 41st overall out of Indiana, the Bills also signed third-round pick, defensive end Chris Ellis of Virginia Tech, and sixth-round pick, running back Xavier Omon of Northwest Missouri, both to four-year contracts.
DALLAS: Three more draft picks signed with the Cowboys, leaving only veteran receiver Terry Glenn and the team's two first-round picks unsigned as they report for training camp.

INDIANAPOLIS: The Colts opened training camp in Terre Haute, Ind., but quarterback Peyton Manning was 90 miles away in Indianapolis, his valuable left knee immobilized after he had surgery to remove an infected bursa sac.
"I'm not really in very much pain," he told reporters in a conference call, his first public comments since the surgery July 14. "I have pain medication, but I haven't had to take any in about eight days. The doctors think no pain means the infection is clearing."

NEW ENGLAND: The Patriots signed Tennessee linebacker and first-round draft pick Jerod Mayo, bringing their last unsigned selection into the fold as the defending AFC champions opened training camp.
