Three North Carolina defensive backs -- Charles Brown, Johnny White and LeCount Fantroy -- are all questionable to play against McNeese State on Saturday, according to the team injury report.

Brown, who started nine games last season, has been slowed most of training camp with a sprained ankle. White, a converted running back, has an injured thigh, and Fantroy has a hurt hand. The Tar Heels' secondary faces a test against the Cowboys, who use a spread offense and have two speedy receivers.

Two other players were listed on the weekly injury report. Wide receiver Cooter Arnold is doubtful to play because of an injured ankle, and linebacker Linwan Euwell is doubtful as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

BUCKEYES' SAFETY OUT: Ohio State's starting strong safety, Kurt Coleman, will likely miss the season-opener against Youngstown State because of an ankle injury suffered in practice this week.

Coach Jim Tressel disclosed the injury Thursday. Coleman, a junior from Dayton, was the Buckeyes' third-leading tackler a year ago.

"We'll probably hold him (out)," Tressel said. "You have to think about the long haul."

His replacement Saturday would be Jermale Hines.

The Montgomery County Circuit Court jury on Thursday acquitted Anthony Lucas of Washington, D.C., of charges in the shooting last November in Blacksburg, Va.

The other man charged in the case, Augustus Peal, claimed in testimony Wednesday that former wide receiver Justin Harper was the target of the shooting. It occurred at about 3:30 a.m. after a Virginia Tech home game in which the Hokies defeated Florida State.

Police found bullet holes inside and outside the apartment, and Harris described running from room to room to escape the shooting.
