North Carolina is off to a quick start in next year's football recruiting race.
The Tar Heels have commitments from seven juniors, including four from North Carolina.
Smithfield-Selma running back D.J. Bunn (5 feet 11, 190 pounds) and linebacker Justin Dixon (6-2, 225) committed to UNC on Saturday.
Carolina had seen film on the two players and invited them to its Junior Day.
"When coaches come in and watch film, D.J. and Justin stand out, especially since you see them on both sides of the ball," Smithfield-Selma coach Anthony Barbour said. "Everybody who has seen them has liked what they saw."
Barbour said he believes UNC is pushing to have more in-state recruits from the class of 2009.
N.C. State had 10 in-state recruits this year. UNC had four.
"Carolina's already showing a big interest in state this year," Barbour said. "They're making a big push to get more of these in-state guys."
UNC also has in-state commitments from safety Hunter Furr of Winston-Salem Mount Tabor and wide receiver Ray-Ray Davis of Monroe's Sun Valley High.
WRESTLING FINALS: The N.C. High School Athletic Association individual wrestling championships are Friday and Saturday at Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem.
Cary and West Johnston won the regional 4-A championship last weekend.
Cary, the 4-A dual-team champion, had four individual champions -- Lawrence White (130 pounds), Justin Koren (140), Brendon Parker-Risk (145) and Eloheim Palma (285) -- while topping second-place Green Hope, 196-149, in the Mideast Regional.
West Johnston outscored second-place Wilmington Laney, 141.5-136, in the 4-A East Regional.
Daniel Pipkin (125) was West Johnston's only individual winner.
NCISAA BASKETBALL: The N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association basketball playoffs begin a weeklong run today that finish Saturday at Ravenscroft.
After today's first round, the classification tournaments will move to three Triangle sites.
Cary Academy and North Raleigh Christian are the host schools for the 1-A and 2-A boys and girls quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. Ravenscroft is the site of the 3-A quarterfinals and semifinals, plus the championships in 1-A and 2-A.
NCHSAA BASKETBALL: N.C. High School Athletic Association basketball teams are playing conference tournaments this week.
The regular-season winner is the top seed from each conference into the state tournament, but the tournament champion is the No. 2 seed, unless the regular-season champ wins.
For the regular-season champion or regular-season runner-up, state playoff berths are determined by the league's regular-season finish.
