Champions Tour announces 2010 schedule

The Champions Tour released its 2010 schedule on Tuesday and the slate includes 26 events, including three new tournaments.

The 2010 campaign will have tournaments contested in 15 states, plus the Dominican Republic, Scotland and South Korea.

The Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic is the first new event to take place and will be contested from April 30th to May 2nd.

Torrey Pines is a good place for Mickelson to start. He's a three-time former champion and spent time working on his game with new putting guru Dave Stockton at the venue last week.

Montreal Championship coming to Champions Tour

The PGA Tour and Synchro Sports announced on Thursday that the Montreal Championship was added to the Champions Tour in 2010.

The 54-hole event will take place July 2-4, 2010 at Fontainebleau Golf Club. The total purse is $1.8 million with the winner getting $270,000.

"We realize the strategic importance of growing the Champions Tour brand globally and establishing a strong presence in Canada," said Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. "Following the overwhelming success of the 2007 Presidents Cup, our players are excited to be back playing in Canada and looking forward to visiting and showcasing the Champions Tour in the world- class city of Montreal."

PGA Tour names 2010 Player Advisory Council

The PGA Tour announced the 16 members of this year's Player Advisory Council for the 2010 season on Thursday.

World No. 3 Steve Stricker and former major champions Rich Beem, Jim Furyk and Mike Weir headline the group named on Thursday.

Jonathan Byrd, Steve Flesch, Harrison Frazar, Jeff Gove, Paul Goydos, Jerry Kelly, Scott McCarron, Joe Ogilvie, Sean O'Hair, Brett Quigley, Kevin Streelman and Mark Wilson rounded out the list.

This is the first time since 2004 that all four major champions are competing in this event. Between duel winners and Tiger Woods missing last year due to injury, it has been five years since the season's major winners all played the Grand Slam.

Jim Furyk won last year in a playoff over Padraig Harrington. Furyk got into the event as an alternate since Woods was unable to play after knee surgery. With the victory, Furyk joined Woods, Greg Norman and Andy North as the only multiple winners of this event.

Of this year's field, only Cabrera has competed in this event before. In 2007, Cabrera birdied the third playoff hole to defeat British Open champion Todd Hamilton.
