Cleveland’s offense was in high gear as it rolled to a 49-0 victory over visiting Southern Wayne behind quarterback Aaron Farmer and running back Corey Brown.
Brown rushed for 182 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns and Farmer completed six of nine passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns as the Cleveland, ranked No. 9 in The N&O poll, improved to 4-1.
Southern Wayne (1-4) managed just 43 yards of total offense.
Hillside at Charlotte Country Day: Hillside, No. 6 in The N&O poll, fell to 1-4 with the loss to the N.C. Independent School Athletic Association team. The Hornets missed a field goal with 8:32 left in the game.
Lee 10, Overhills 7: Undefeated Lee County took a 10-7 lead with 9:36 left in the game on a 40-yard field goal by Ian Fry. A Jerry Pullum interception with 2:30 left helped preserve the win.
Western Harnett 55, Union Pines 25: Western Harnett’s strong running game helped it hold off Union Pines.
Chapel Hill 65, East Chapel Hill 6: Undefeated Chapel Hill belted its in-town rival.
