Game of the week: Warsaw Kenan 26, Princeton 23. Two of the top 1A teams in the state staged one of the top games of the season. Kenan came from 10 points down in the final minutes, including a recovered onside kick, to knock off the Bulldogs.
Game of the week, Part II: Harnett Central 24, Clayton 21. Central quarterback Jay McNeill scored on a 2-yard run with 41 seconds left for the winning score. McNeil rushed for 115 yards and passed for 169 yards in one of the biggest upsets in the area this year.
Player of the week: Elijah Perry of Middle Creek posted his fifth straight game of scoring at least two touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 52-24 win over Apex. He has scored 11 touchdowns. He ran 26 times for 243 yards against Apex. He is averaging 149 yards per game, but his totals are pulled down by limited yardage in 49-7 and 56-28 blowout wins over Smithfield-Selma and Wakefield.
Special teams: Brad Davis of Heritage returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown in a 14-3 win over Leesville Road.
Defender of the week: Isaiah Laster of Panther Creek intercepted two passes and ran in a fumble for a touchdown in a 28-14 win at Athens Drive.
Defense of the week: Orange. Pittsboro Northwood was undefeated and averaging 43 points per game before being blanked by Orange. The Panthers stopped three fourth-down plays deep in their own territory to preserve the win.
Offensive line of the week: Wake Forest. Tackles Kirrian Kirby, Adam Ashley, guards Ray Arabi and Connor McCune, centers Chaska Moon and Brandon Locklear and and tight ends Jake Pritzlaff and Austin Hicks shoved Broughton defenders out of the way as the Cougars rushed for 426 yards in a 60-20 win.
Bryce Love, Wake Forest: Ran for 180 yards on 12 carries, scored three rushing touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass in a 60-20 win over Broughton. Teammate Mack Moore completed 6-of-9 passes for three touchdowns, including a pair to Brooks Cunningham (three catches, 188 yards).
Brant Grisel, Middle Creek: Passed for 218 yards and three touchdowns in a 52-24 win over Apex.
Johnny Frasier, Princeton: Ran for 211 yards in a 26-23 loss to James Kenan.
Rod White, Rocky Mount Academy: Rushed for 225 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 64-8 eight-man win over Lawrence Academy.
Troy Maslowski, Green Hope: Picked off two passes, including one for a 20-yard touchdown in a 37-3 win over Cary.
Ti Pinnix, Northwood: Passed for 190 yards in a 14-7 loss to Orange.
Connor Stough, Chapel Hill: Completed 8-of-9 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-0 win over Oxford Webb.
Cross Carpenter, Ravenscroft: Passed for 205 yards in a 41-6 loss to Charlotte Country Day.
Reid Herring, Millbrook: Passed for 196 yards in a 36-20 win over Enloe. Teammate Marcus Marshall had four touchdowns.
Damarus Williams, Fuquay-Varina: Ran for 189 of the Bengals’ 238 yards in an 18-10 win over Holly Springs.
Tripp Harrington, East Wake: Passed for 263 yards in a 33-21 loss to Garner.
Isaiah Totten, Apex: Dashed for 198 yards in a 52-24 loss to Middle Creek.
Eric Hoy, Clayton: Passed for 236 yards in a 24-21 loss to Harnett Central.
Owen Wilkinson, Broughton: Completed 24-of-39 passes for 183 yards in a 60-20 loss to Wake Forest.
Camaran Hinnant, Wake Christian: Intercepted three passes in a 68-30 win over Kestrel Heights.
