Eight area high school players, including a pair from Durham Hillside, were named to the North Carolina roster for the 78th annual Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas on Monday.
Hillside linemen Marcus Pettiford and Emanuel McGirt will be joined by quarterback Kendall Hinton of Southern Durham and runners Johnny Frasier of Princeton and Bryce Love of Wake Forest. Love is listed as a wide receiver on the roster.
Also making on the squad are Cleveland wide receiver Greg Tyler, Corinth Holders lineman Jared Johnson and Chapel Hill offensive lineman Logan Tisch.
Mooresville’s Hal Capps, the North Carolina head coach, took two players each from New Bern, Newton-Conover, Richmond County, Scotland and his own team.
Among the notable omissions were Cleveland defensive tackle Sterling Johnson, a Clemson recruit, and Garner running back Nyheim Hines, another national recruiting target.
