The Leesville Road Pride shut out the Enloe Eagles’ offense in the second half as the Pride won, 28-13, extending their win streak to three games.
Leesville quarterback Clay Vick threw for 205 yards and two scores, and Mike Dehaney rushed for 203 yards and a 64-yard touchdown in the first half.
Enloe quarterback Cameron Lewis lead the way for the Eagles with 105 rushing yards and two early touchdowns. Following a fumble by Leesville on the opening drive of the game, Lewis capped a 20 yard drive with a 14-yard run into the end zone for a quick 7-0 lead.
“You can’t stop [Lewis]. He’s too athletic,” said Leesville coach Mike Hobgood. “He’s not a super thrower, so you can come up on some plays. You just have to contain, to play your assignments and run to the football.”
Never miss a local story.
Leesville answered on the ensuing possession with a 65-yard drive, spanning three minutes that ended on a Spencer Eason-Riddle punched it in from the goal line. Four of the next five possessions resulted in punts, until Dehaney’s 64-yard score with 5:52 left in the first half.
“We ran the ball better. We made a priority to do that,” said Hobgood. “We threw for about 300 yards last week, but didn’t run for anything. We made an effort to run the ball more. If we aren’t balanced, we won’t win a lot of football games.”
With his team trailing by a point, Lewis and the Eagles offense drove down the field easily as they looked for their first lead of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. But on fourth down at the Pride four yard line, Lewis was picked off by KJ Davis.
Vick would later seal the game when he hit Connor Eller in the corner of the end zone, giving Leesville a two-touchdown lead with six minutes left in the game.
“Its good momentum and we’re playing better,” said Hobgood. “We’re about to hit the big boys with Wake Forest, and Millbrook and Wakefield. We’re looking forward to the challenge. We’ve gotten better each week. I don’t think anyone is expecting us to win except for us. But we’re going to believe and work hard and go after it.”
