The N&O All-Metro boys and girls track and field teams

Apex athletes lead the 2014 The News & Observer All-Metro track and field stars.

Pole vault champion Drew Pederson, triple jump champion Reyho Tshiama and 1,600-meter runner Mihret Coulter represent the boys state runner-up Cougars while double winner Sydnei Murphy and pole vault champ Anna Eaton make the club from the Apex girls.

Murphy was the high point scorer in the 4A championships with wins in the long and triple jump, a second-place finish in the 100, and a sixth-place finish in the 200.

Athletes from the area’s 4A schools dominate the 2014 News & Observer high school All-Metro team.

Seventeen of the 20 athletes on the squad were state champions.
