North Raleigh Christian Academy put away North East Carolina Prep about the same time fans folded up their umbrellas.
The rain stopped in the second quarter, and the Knights pulled away with a pair of touchdowns followed by two-point conversions en route to a 31-6 win Friday night at NRCA’s stadium.
The Knights (3-2) only led 8-6 after the first quarter, but Mike Dunmire scored on a 4-yard run with 8:59 left in the second and quarterback Ryan Rock on a 2-yard run with 1:13 remaining until intermission. The Knights’ 24-6 lead proved insurmountable for the run-oriented offense of Tarboro’s NE Carolina Prep (2-2).
NE Carolina Prep trailed only 8-6 when the Huskies ran a fake punt on fourth-and-10 from their 17-yard line. The play lost five yards to give NRCA the ball at the 12. Rock ran for 8 yards and Mike Dunmire scored the first of his three touchdowns from 4 yards out for a gift 16-6 lead.
