East Wake, Chapel Hill and Southeast Raleigh enter The News & Observer high school football rankings this week after impressive season-opening victories.
East Wake handled South Johnston 42-28, and Chapel Hill looked strong in a 45-21 win against previously ranked Durham Riverside. Southeast Raleigh registered an 18-13 win against traditional power Fayetteville Jack Britt.
At the top of the poll, preseason heavyweights Southern Durham, Wake Forest, Millbrook and Middle Creek won, but formerly third-ranked Durham Hillside produced little offense in a 12-0 loss to New Bern.
