Friday night heroes: Southern’s Kendall Hinton stars in a classic

Game of the week : Southern Durham’s dramatic 16-13 win over Durham Hillside was a classic. Southern Durham scored with 26.5 seconds left to win and then stopped Hillside at the 5 on the last play of the game.

Player of the week : Kendall Hinton of Southern Durham passed for 263 yards, threw for a touchdown and rushed for a touchdown in the win over Durham Hillside.

Defender : Defensive tackle Elijah Washington of Pittsboro Northwood had 21 tackles, including 10 for a loss, with three sacks.

Defensive unit : Orange held Northern Durham to 53 total yards in an 18-0 win.

Catching star : Quincy Jackson of East Wake had six catches for 214 yards in a 27-18 loss to Wake Forest. Quarterback Tripp Harrington passed for 228 of the Warriors’ 304 passing yards.

Special teams : Wake Forest’s Zach Coates kicked two field goals, including a 50-yarder in the win over East Wake.


Cameron Williams, West Johnston: Passed for 169 yards and rushed for 160 in a 40-20 win over South Johnston.

Eric Hoy, Clayton : Rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 149 yards and two scores in a 27-19 win over Corinth Holders.

Elijah Perry, Middle Creek : Rushed for 172 yards and caught passes for 122 more yards in a 35-22 win over Fayetteville Smith.

Isaiah Totten, Apex : Rushed for 205 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-14 win over Leesville Road.

Clay Vick, Leesville Road: Completed 20 of 31 passes for 233 yards in a 44-14 loss to Apex.

Eric Sugarman, Fuquay-Varina : Rambled for 220 yards in a 34-20 win over Durham Riverside.

Wesley Wagner, Cardinal Gibbons : Passed for 207 yards in a 40-27 win over Cary.

Reid Herring, Millbrook : Threw for 212 yards in a 30-7 win over Knightdale.

Luke Massei, Green Hope : Passed for 225 yards in a 14-13 victory over Sanderson.

Trai Sharp, Carrboro: Gained 183 yards and scored three touchdowns on 13 carries in a 45-12 win over East Chapel Hill.

Amier Alston, East Chapel Hill : Rushed for 186 yards in the loss to Carrboro.

Otumos Payemanu, Athens Drive: Completed 14 of 30 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-27 win over Broughton.

Kyle Holland Rocky Mount Academy: Recorded 15 tackles in a 29-0 eight-man football win over Halifax Academy.

Nyheim Hines, Garner: Scored four touchdowns and rushed for 183 yards in a 44-21 win over Cleveland.

Blake Walters, Heritage: Passed for 167 yards in a 39-0 win over Rolesville.

Diante Strothers, Riverside : Passed for 188 yards in a 34-20 loss to Fuquay-Varina.

David Badsen, Kinston Parrott: Rushed 17 times for 294 yard in a 46-40 win over St. David’s.
