Corinth Holders holds on for 44-41 upset win against Cleveland in Friday’s game of the week.
Game of the week: Corinth Holders held Cleveland at the 1 in the closing seconds and claimed a victory when the Rams missed a 40-yard field-goal attempt on the final play.
Player of the week: Dominic Ford of Broughton passed for 398 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 117 yards and another score in a 44-37 overtime loss to Wakefield. Ford missed the first four games of the season with a broken collarbone and had been a wide receiver in recent games. Broughton trailed 34-14 at the half. Kanden Rogers had nine catches for 193 yards.
Defenders: Chapel Hill shut out Cardinal Gibbons 14-0 in a Big Eight 3A game and held the Crusaders to 103 total yards.
Defensive battle: Millbrook 17, Heritage 14. The Cap Eight 4A game was exactly as billed: a tough defensive battle that was decided late. Matthew Baker had 234 rushing yards in the loss.
No running allowed: Defense saved Garner in a 28-6 win against Knightdale as it held the Knights to 6 yards on 23 rushing attempts. Brodie West rallied the Trojans by completing 12 of 19 passes for 216 yards.
Johnny Frasier, Princeton: Ran the ball 11 times for 249 yards and four touchdowns, including on a 94-yard run, in a 67-30 victory over North Duplin.
Aaron Farmer, Cleveland: Completed 19 of 33 passes for 343 yards in a 44-41 loss to Corinth Holders. Greg Tyler had seven catches for 176 yards and three touchdowns.
Eric Hoy, Clayton: Rushed for 166 yards and passed for 179 in a 54-35 loss to East Wake.
Matt McKay, Wakefield: Threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns in a 44-37 win against Broughton.
Melvin Briggs, St. David’s: Rushed for 315 yards and scored on runs of 95, 1, 15, 58, 43 and 18 in a 70-13 eight-man victory over Northeast Academy.
Brenden Magner, Panther Creek: Completed 15 of 26 passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-28 win against .
Brant Grisel, Middle Creek: Passed for 236 yards in a 24-21 victory over Athens Drive.
Tripp Harrington, East Wake: Completed 13 of 21 passes for 237 yards in a 54-35 win against Clayton.
Jamie Barnes, Athens Drive: Ran for 188 yards in a 24-21 loss to Middle Creek. Teammate Nate Gatling, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman, returned a fumble for touchdown.
Luke Massei, Green Hope: Completed 18 of 33 passes for 248 yards in a 20-17 win against Holly Springs.
Tray Staten, Holly Springs: Rushed for 179 yards in a 20-17 loss to Green Hope. Teammate Nehemiah Harris added 143 yards on the ground.
Dylan Parham, Southeast Raleigh: Completed 27 of 35 passes for 282 yards in a 48-34 loss to West Johnston. Jaquell Johnson had 13 catches for 192 yards.
