Southern Durham at Orange, 7 p.m.
It is no surprise that the Big Eight 3A football championship will be decided by the league’s two heavyweights.
Southern Durham (10-0) has been No. 1 in The News & Observer rankings and Orange (10-0) has steadily advanced throughout the season to the No. 3 position.
Southern Durham was the 2013 N.C. High School Athletic Association 3AA champion and has been led by state player of the year candidate Kendal Hinton, who has passed for 2,073 yards and added another 513 rushing.
Panther Creek at Green Hope, 7 p.m.
The top playoff seed from the Southwest Wake Athletic 4A is on the line. Panther Creek (5-0, 9-1) has not lost since falling to No. 2-ranked Wake Forest in the opener, 23-6.
Green Hope (5-1, 8-2) dropped a nonconference game to Cleveland 35-21 and a SWAC game to Middle Creek (4-2, 8-2) 44-7.
