Middle Creek moves to No. 1 in The N&O rankings

Middle Creek, helped by a tremendous defensive effort in Friday’s 24-21 victory over Garner, moves into the top spot of The News & Observer Top 15.

Knightdale was No. 1 last week, but slips to fourth.

The area’s three teams that will play in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Eastern championship games are Nos. 1, 2 and 3.

Top-ranked Middle Creek will be at home against No. 2 Wake Forest in 4AA. Southern Durham, which is No. 3, is at home against Wilson Hunt in 3AA.

Millbrook, which lost in four overtimes to Wake Forest, is No. 5, and Garner moves up a spot to No. 6 despite losing to Middle Creek.
