Wakefield’s Mack wins Gatorade Award

Darian Mack, who helped lead Wakefield High to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A volleyball championship, has been named the Gatorade North Carolina volleyball winner.

The 6-foot senior outside hitter led the Wolverines to a 25-2 record with 318 kills, 229 digs, 63 service aces and 29 blocks. She had a kill percentage of .462.

“Darian is a wonderful young lady and has been a strong leader/captain for us the past few years,” said Wakefield coach Cynthia Terrell. “She is a versatile and flexible player who has put the needs of her team above herself to help us achieve tremendous success. She is an unselfish player who has proven to be a valuable asset to our programs goals.

“Her dedication to her sport with her skills and abilities through hard work and her perserverance has made her one of the most competitive and top players.”

Mack is a two-time first team all-state selection and was an honorable mention Under Armour All-American as named by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.Gatorade

She is a University of Kentucky recruit.
