Southwest Wake Athletic all-conference girls basketball team

Cary’s Azura Stevens and coach Pat Daly took the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference’s top girls basketball awards, as voted on by league coaches.

Cary’s Azura Stevens and coach Pat Daly took the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference’s top girls basketball awards, as voted on by league coaches.

Stevens, who will play at Duke next season, averaged 29.6 points and 18.2 rebounds per game this season. Daly guided the Imps to the SWAC title and a 21-4 overall record. It was Cary’s first conference title since 2005.

Cary also placed senior point guard Mallory Curtis (7.1 ppg, 4.4 assists) on the second team.

Apex had a conference-leading three players on the all-conference list with forward Mia Castagnero (averaged 8.2 points, 8 rebounds, 2.1 steals), guard Aliya Ruffin (12 ppg, 5.5 rebounds) and center Tiffany Finley (11.8 ppg, 5.8 rebounds).

Athens Drive’s Grace Hunter was second in the league in scoring (27.5 ppg), while teammate Briana McCrimmon (7.7) made the second team.

Holly Springs had a first-teamer in Brianna Tate (13.5 ppg, 3.6 steals, 3.9 assists) and a second-teamer in Hadiya Howard (10.2 ppg, 8.3 rebounds).

Green Hope senior Jaria Martin was the Falcons’ only selection, while Panther Creek placed Caila Spruill and Middle Creek placed junior Holly Hite (11.8 ppg, 8.8 rebounds).
