Former Triangle high school players in NCAA women’s tournament

Ten girls basketball players who played most of their high school basketball in the Triangle will be playing in this week’s NCAA Women’s College Basketball Tournament.

Walk-on Jenna Frush, formerly of Northern Durham, is on the highest-seeded team (3-seed Duke) listed below. N.C. State, a 5-seed, has the most former area players with three, while Hampton and Syracuse each have two.

Duke: Jenna Frush (Northern Durham, 2011).

Hampton: Bayley Coleman-Cox (Jordan, 2013); Tyler Hobgood (J.F. Webb, 2011).

N.C. State: Markeisha Gatling (Athens Drive, 2010); Breezy Williams (Northern Durham 2010); Ashley Williams (Green Hope, 2013).

Syracuse: Bria Day (Millbrook 2012); Briana Day (Millbrook, 2013).

Vanderbilt: Kristen Gaffney (Green Hope, 2012).

Winthrop: Zoe Vernon (Carolina Friends, 2012)
