Southwest Wake Athletic all-conference baseball team

Fuquay-Varina has the conference baseball player of the year for the second straight season. Senior Brett Daniels won this year’s Southwest Wake Athletic Conference award, as voted on by conference coaches, a year after former teammate Garrett Suggs.

Panther Creek baseball coach Dan Hall, who guided the Catamounts to the fourth round of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs and 17 wins after the team had never won more than seven games in a season, was voted coach of the year.

Conference champion Green Hope (21-4) placed five players on the all-conference list. Senior catcher Thomas Yoder was joined by senior shortstop Stephen Pitarra and junior pitcher Troy Maslowski on the first team. Junior pitcher Michael Merryman and classmate Vincent Addona, a shortstop, were on the second team.

Panther Creek (17-10) had pitcher Josh Maciejewski and Trevor Howard on the first team. Jake Wilson and Jordan Hockaday were on the second team.

In addition to senior pitcher/second baseman Daniels, Fuquay-Varina (13-11) had shorstop D.J. Burt on the first team as well as first baseman Nick Yarborough

Apex (12-13) placed Ben Highfill on the first team, while senior Alex Yarem and sophomore outfielder Estaban Valencia were on the second team.

Holly Springs (14-10) catcher Mike Sconzo made first team while fellow senior outfielder R.J. Arthur was on second team.

Middle Creek (13-13) sophomore shortstop Diego Guerrero made the second team, where he was joined by third baseman/pitcher Tyler Sholar.

Athens Drive (5-16) had senior shortstop Nick Venditti on the second team. Cary (4-16) did not have a player selected.
