Southwest Wake Athletic all-conference softball

Conference champ Middle Creek swept the Southwest Wake Athletic Conference softball coach and player of the year awards, as voted on by league coaches. Sophomore pitcher Devin Wallace was player of the year while Robbie Wray was coach of the year.

Joining Wallace on the first team for the Mustangs (21-4) were junior centerfielder Megan Walker and senior third baseman Lauren Panella. Junior first baseman/pitcher Kiley Majette and classmate Alie Burghardt, a shortstop, made the second team.

Fuquay-Varina (17-5), which won a tiebreaker for second place with Apex, had senior first baseman Kelsey Ward on the first team. Junior Kaitlin Smith and sophomores Cassidy Keith, a pitcher, and shortstop Ashlyn Long were on second team.

Apex (15-5) placed last year’s conference player of the year Lindsay Hodge on first team with senior Alexis Overdiep. Senior first baseman Jordan Smith was a second-team selection.

Green Hope (13-8) had sophomore Cameron Cook on the first team and junior Natsumi Koyama on the second team.

Holly Springs (8-12) had just one all-conference selection: junior first-teamer Abby Snidemiller.

Panther Creek (9-10), which made its first postseason trip this year, had senior Madison Thompson on the first team and freshman Sarah Aukamp on the second team.

Athens Drive (9-11) placed senior catcher Olivia Baratta on the first team and senior pitcher Hannah Reynolds on the second team.

Cary (2-16) had junior third baseman Priscilla Sanchez on the second team.
