PITTSBORO -- Note to other 4-A girls golf teams across the state: Don't square off with Athens Drive at The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge.
The Jaguars left their paw prints all over the Fred Couples layout on Tuesday, repeating as NCHSAA Eastern Regional champions with a dominating victory.
The 18-stroke victory was a big statement from the defending state 4-A champions, who have added freshman Sarah Bae to a lineup that returned all four state championship players to the lineup this season.
The Jaguars' score was also 19 strokes better than their team score in last year's regional.
Bae earned individual medalist honors with a 2-over, 74. She finished a shot ahead of Clayton senior Lizzie Bundy. Katherine Perry, the 2008 Eastern Regional champion and a North Carolina recruit, shot 78 for Athens Drive.
Bae played an even-tempered round, with four bogeys and two birdies for Athens Drive.
All five Jaguar golfers finished at 93 or lower on the day. Sydney Shackleford (81) and Mandy Monchick (82) both finished in the top-10, giving Athens Drive four players on the individual leaderboard.
Cap Seven Conference champion Wakefield was led by freshman Morgan Schultz, who finished at 8-over par. Stephanie Pribonic added an 83 for the Wolverines.
Green Hope (261) and Fayetteville Terry Sanford (267) claimed the other team bids to next week's 4-A state championships at Foxfire.
Green Hope was paced by the 84 of Andrea Estes and Katie Mohorn's 85. The lowest scoring three individuals on the top-four teams and the next best 15 individual scores advanced to the states from the regional.
Broughton finished fifth at 285, a shot ahead of Apex. Clayton (290) was seventh, followed by Enloe (294), Leesville Road (304) and Middle Creek (305).
