Terry Sanford High, which gained a football playoff berth after a judge's decision, has lost its chance to continue playing after another round in court.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that a judge ruled Tuesday to drop Terry Sanford from the title chase for using an ineligible player.
Judge Jack Thompson said he was surprised by testimony that the Terry Sanford principal was authorized to give a player a passing grade in a class which he had failed.
The team was ruled ineligible by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association after problems with the player's credits and attendance were discovered. The team was restored to the playoffs last week and defeated Pine Forest 48-29 on Saturday.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) said it received instructions from the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday.
Rebellin was one of five athletes who tested positive in April for CERA, an advanced version of the blood-boosting drug EPO, in new tests using retroactive blood samples taken at the games. All denied doping.
Russian skater facing charges
Police say Russian figure skater Andrei Lutai stole a car and drove it while drunk after finishing 10th overall in the Skate America competition in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Police say the car was stolen from a service station lot late Sunday night. A garage employee followed the car and called police. Sgt. Carol Hayes says officers pulled over the 23-year-old Lutai, of St. Petersburg, a few minutes later.
Police have charged Lutai with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
He is being held in the Essex County Jail on $100,000 cash bail. Brian Barrett, Lutai's lawyer, says he has "serious doubts" about the DWI and theft charges, but he wouldn't go into specifics.
