The 6-foot-2, 175-pound senior at Burlington Williams consistently runs 40 yards in 4.4 seconds.

He caught 68 passes for 1,091 yards and 10 touchdowns at Williams and played in the Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas all-star game.

Veteran Williams coach Sam Story said Foster had been overlooked by many college coaches.

"His hand was hurt at the beginning of his junior year and we had four senior wide receivers," Story said.

"But he worked his behind off in the summer and had a great senior year."

Story said that Foster, in addition to being fast, is an excellent student who knows how to work academically and athletically.

Foster and Lee County running back Jay Hollingsworth are the only players from North Carolina who have committed to Duke. The Blue Devils also received a commitment this week from Jordan Byars, a Panama City, Fla., defensive back, who also had offers from Mississippi and Clemson.

The commitments are not binding on Duke or the players. The national letter of intent signing day is Wednesday.
