It turns out it was a costly Truck series victory for Kasey Kahne at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
NASCAR on Tuesday fined Kahne’s crew chief for the race, Joe Shear Jr., $6,000 and placed him on probation through Dec. 31 after Kahne’s winning truck failed to meet the minimum splitter height following his victory Friday night.
Kahne and Erik Jones battled side-by-side in a two-lap overtime before Kahne escaped with the win, his fifth in six series starts. Kahne was driving the No. 00 Chevrolet owned by JR Motorsports. Team co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. also was docked 10 owner points.
Also Tuesday, NASCAR fined Gary Cogswell, crew chief of JD Motorsports’ No. 4 team, $15,000 and placed him on probation through Dec. 31 for improperly affixed weight on the team’s car during Xfinity Series practice Saturday at Iowa Speedway. Car chief Charles Kent also was placed on probation through Dec. 31.
Never miss a local story.
In a statement, team owner Johnny Davis said the organization would not appeal. “We have investigated the incident on our end and made changes to ensure that a similar event does not occur again,” he said.
The weight came loose during practice and struck and severely damaged the car driven by Jamie Dick.
