Matchup to Watch

Jeff Green vs. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist: Green and Kidd-Gilchrist are similar in that they’re a little bigger and stronger than typical NBA small forwards these days.

The Celtics went into full-scale rebuilding when they dealt Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn. Ex-Bobcat Gerald Wallace ended up being part of the package back to Boston, and a 12-year veteran doesn’t exactly fit the youth movement at the Garden

Wallace has lost some lift as he’s aged. The Celtics keep track of each player’s dunks and Wallace is yet to have one in eight games played.

In going young the Celtics also went outside the box for a coach, hiring Butler’s Brad Stevens. College coaches with no previous NBA experience have had only marginal success, but that is often because they inherit weak rosters.

The Celtics’ best remaining player, point guad Rajon Rondo, is recovering from a torn ACL.

Celtics rookie center Kelly Olynyk is an intriguing prospect with NBA three-point range

The Celtics shot 60 percent from the field in their last game, scoring 120 points on the Orlando Magic

In Rondo’s absence the Celtics are using Avery Bradley as a quasi-point guard.

Did you know?

At 37 Stevens is the youngest current head coach in the NBA, but he’s only the fifth-youngest in Celtics history. Dave Cowens served as Celtics player-coach at 30 and later coached the Charlotte Hornets.
