Charlotte Bobcats point guard Kemba Walker is among 27 NBA players invited to Las Vegas for a Team USA minicamp July 22-25.

Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, recommitted to coaching Team USA, will run the camp. Others with area ties who’ve been invited: Kyrie Irving (Duke/Cleveland Cavaliers), Harrison Barnes (North Carolina/Golden State Warriors), Ty Lawson (North Carolina/Denver Nuggets), John Wall (Raleigh/Washington Wizards) and Tyler Zeller (North Carolina/Cavaliers).

This camp is intended for young NBA players working their way into possible consideration for the next Olympics. It will include the top pick from each of the past three NBA drafts: Wall, Irving and New Orleans’ Anthony Davis. The invitation list didn’t include any candidates for the 2013 draft.

Former Davidson star Stephen Curry was excused from participating in this camp because he already is in the Team USA pipeline.

Walker had a strong second season with the Bobcats, averaging 17.7 points (22nd in the NBA) and 5.7 assists (25th). He’ll have abundant competition at point guard in this camp between Irving, Wall, Lawson and Portland Trail Blazer Damian Lillard.
