Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise each had a goal and an assist, Martin Brodeur made 31 saves, and the host New Jersey Devils extended their winning streak to six games with a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.

David Clarkson also scored and Andy Greene had two assists for the Devils, winners of three straight at home after they lost their first three at the Prudential Center.

Corey Perry scored for the Ducks, and Jonas Hiller made 22 saves.

New Jersey travels to Pittsburgh tonight looking to go 9-0 on the road. The NHL record for best road start is 10-0 by Buffalo in 2006.

Also Wednesday

Red Wings 9, Blue Jackets 1: Detroit scored four times early in the first period, and Niklas Kronwall had two power-play goals and an assist.

Justin Abdelkader scored two late goals, and Dan Cleary, Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi each had a goal and assist.

Kris Draper and Ville Leino also scored for Detroit, which despite major injuries to several key players and a recent loss to lowly Toronto are 5-1-1 in their past seven games.

Capitals 5, Islanders 4 (SO): Chris Clark scored the deciding goal in the 11th round of the shootout, and backup goalie Semyon Varlamov came on in relief and carried host Washington to a comeback victory.

Alexander Semin scored two regulation goals and added one in the second round of the shootout for the Capitals.

Washington played its fourth straight game without top scorer Alex Ovechkin (upper-body strain).

Sabres 3, Oilers 1: Ryan Miller made 28 saves to lift Buffalo over visiting Edmonton, which has lost five of six.

Drew Stafford, Steve Montador and Jochen Hecht scored for the Sabres (10-4-1), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Tim Connolly added two assists.

Patrick O'Sullivan scored, and Nikolai Khabibulin made 23 saves for the Oilers.

Blackhawks 3, Avalanche 2 (SO): Patrick Sharp scored in the third shootout round, lifting host Chicago over Colorado - the third straight game between the teams decided in a tiebreaker.

Craig Anderson, a Chicago-area native who played three seasons for the Blackhawks, made 37 saves in regulation and overtime for the Avalanche. He turned aside Patrick Kane's shootout attempt but was beaten by Jonathan Toews in the first shootout round and then couldn't stop Sharp's backhander over his glove.

Late Tuesday

Sharks 4, Predators 3: Dan Boyle scored with a minute left in the third period for host San Jose.
