Recap: Dallas vs. Carolina

Marty Turco stopped 22 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Dallas Stars topped the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-0, at American Airlines Center.

Brad Richards had a goal and an assist while Jamie Benn scored the other goal for the Stars, who have won three of their last four.

"Right now, the thing for us is to keep putting points on the ledger and tonight we got a couple of huge ones," said Dallas coach Marc Crawford. "We've won two in a row now, and we get the chance to try and string together three on Wednesday."

Canes close the deal

In a season where little has gone right, the Carolina Hurricanes were rolling for two periods and led by three goals.

Then came the crucial third period.

But after surrendering a pair of goals in the third and killing a late penalty, the Hurricanes held on for a 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks, ending a five-game losing streak before 14,990 fans at the RBC Center Saturday afternoon.

Ruutu helps Hurricanes defeat Stars

Tuomo Ruutu scored his first career hat trick, and Ray Whitney provided some unintentional late-game suspense Wednesday night in trying to get Ruutu that first hat trick.

But for the Carolina Hurricanes, a 5-3 win over the Dallas Stars at the RBC Center was more a matter of starting well, finishing well and leaving the rink with smiles all around. And, this season, that has been a rarity.

While Ruutu was the headliner, Eric Staal had a goal, two assists and one of his best defensive efforts. Jussi Jokinen had a goal and assist, defensemen Joni Pitkanen and Bryan Rodney two assists apiece, and goaltender Cam Ward picked up his first victory since Oct. 9 against the Florida Panthers.

Hurricanes handle Rangers

The Carolina Hurricanes met the New York Rangers' physical play to win a season-high seventh straight game in a 4-2 win at the RBC Center.

In 28 seconds, well into the third period, the Hurricanes score two quick goals to go up 4-2.

First, Chad LaRose was hanging out to the right of the net and put Jussi Jokinen's pass past Henrik Lundqvist at 12:25.

Devils deny Canes

When defenseman Andy Greene played his first professional game with Lowell of the American Hockey League in 2006, he scored two goals - and hadn't accomplished the feat since.

Until Wednesday night.

Greene had consecutive goals for the surging New Jersey Devils in a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.
