Canes trim six from roster
The Carolina Hurricanes on Monday assigned four players to the Charlotte Checkers’ training camp while putting two others on waivers with the purpose of sending them to Charlotte.
Defenseman Trevor Carrick and forwards Brendan Woods, Sergey Tolchinsky and Phil Di Giuseppe will report to the Checkers’ camp, which opens Tuesday. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre and forward Brody Sutter also will report, pending waivers.
The Canes’ training camp roster has 27 players. Among those still on the roster are forward Brock McGinn and defensemen Noah Hanifin, Haydn Fleury, Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce.
The Checkers, the Canes’ American Hockey League affiliate, announced Monday that former Checkers forward Jared Staal had been signed to a professional tryout offer and will attend camp. Staal is the younger brother of the Canes’ Eric and Jordan Staal.
