Canes’ Lack receives 2-year contract extension

The Carolina Hurricanes, who traded for goalie Eddie Lack in June, have agreed on a two-year contract extension with the Swede.

Lack, 27, will receive $2.5 million in 2016-17 and $3 million in 2017-18.

The Vancouver Canucks traded Lack -- a popular player in Vancouver -- to the Canes on June 27 in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and a seventh-round selection in the 2016 draft.

Lack was 18-13-4, with a 2.45 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage, last season in helping the Canucks reach the playoffs. When No. 1 goalie Ryan Miller suffered a knee injury in February, Lack was 12-6-2 in 21 appearances and later appeared in three playoff games.

Lack and Canes goalie Cam Ward both appeared in three games in the preseason. Lack was 1-0-0 with a 2.21 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage.

“Eddie has been a great addition to our locker room,” general manager Ron Francis said in a statement. “We feel that we have a very solid tandem in net for this season and are excited that Eddie will remain a part of that picture beyond this year.”
