Peters chosen for Team Canada staff
Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Carolina Hurricanes coach Bill Peters has been named to Canada’s coaching staff for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock will be the head coach for Canada in the event, set Sept. 17-Oct. 1, 2016 in Toronto.
Peters, 50, is in his second season as head coach of the Hurricanes. Prior to joining Carolina, Peters spent three seasons in Detroit as an assistant coach for Babcock.
Peters also served as an assistant coach for Canada this past spring when it captured gold at the 2015 IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic.
Peters was head coach of Team Canada’s gold-medal-winning squad at the 2008 IIHF U-18 Junior World Cup
