Canes’ Di Giuseppe has concussion
Carolina Hurricanes forward Phil Di Giuseppe, injured Saturday against the Nashville Predators, has a concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely, the team confirmed Tuesday.
Di Giuseppe left the Predators game in the second period after crashing into the boards. Canes coach Bill Peters said after the game the rookie had gone through the NHL concussion protocol.
Di Giuseppe did not accompany the Canes on a two-game trip this week to Edmonton and Vancouver. Forward Brock McGinn was recalled from the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) and played Monday against the Oilers.
Di Giuseppe had three goals and five assists in 14 games, and had joined center Victor Rask and winger Jeff Skinner in forming a productive line. McGinn replaced Di Giuseppe on the line Monday but it was mostly ineffective as the Canes dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to the Oilers at Rexall Place.
