Canes’ Nestrasil to miss remainder of season

The Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday that forward Andrej Nestrasil will miss the remainder of the 2015-16 season with a fractured vertebra.

Nestrasil, 25, suffered the injury Thursday in the road game at Toronto when he sustained a hit and fell awkwardly into the boards.

Nestrasil set NHL career highs this season in games played (55), goals (9), assists (14) and points (23). Playing on a line with center Jordan Staal and Joakim Nordstrom that had become the Canes’ most productive, he had four goals and 10 assists in a 20-game stretch from Jan. 8-Feb. 23 before the injury.

Nestrasil is in his second season with Carolina after being claimed on waivers from Detroit on Nov. 20, 2014.
