Shugg signed to one-year, two-way contract

The Canes on Monday signed right wing Justin Shugg to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay $600,000 in the NHL or $70,000 in the American Hockey League in the 2014-2015 season.

Shugg, 22, completed his third professional season in 2013-14, playing 75 games for the Charlotte Checkers (AHL). He had AHL career highs in games played, goals (16), assists (22) and points (38).

Selected by the Hurricanes in the fourth round, 105th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Shugg has 28 goals and 44 assists in 147 career AHL games with Charlotte.
