The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday announced their roster for preseason training camp, which begins Thursday with physical testing and will have the first on-ice sessions Friday at PNC Arena.
The two groups Friday will have a total of 32 forwards, 18 defensemen and seven goalies. Forwards Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho are competing for Finland in the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto and will join the camp after the event.
Canes coach Bill Peters will miss the first part of camp as he serves as an assistant coach for Canada in the World Cup.
Forward Julien Gauthier and defenseman Jake Bean, the Canes’ two first-round picks in the 2016 NHL Draft, will be at training camp. Others invited from the Canes team that won the Traverse City (Mich.) prospects tournament include forwards Sergey Tolchinsky, Valentin Zykov, Janne Kuokkanen and Nicolas Roy; defensemen Haydn Fleury, Roland McKeown, Josh Wesley and Ben Gleason, and goalies Alex Nedeljkovic and Callum Booth.
Never miss a local story.
Fleury suffered a lower body injury at Traverse City that kept him out of most of the games but was called a precautionary move.
Veteran forward Raffi Torres is a camp invitee and the only player on a professional tryout.
