P.A. Parenteau scored the decisive goal in the seventh round of the shootout, as the New York Rangers edged the Ottawa Senators, 2-1, at Scotiabank Place. Vinny Prospal registered a short-handed goal in regulation for the Rangers, who snapped a two-game slide. Henrik Lundqvist finished with 35 saves in the win. Brian Lee lit the lamp and Brian Elliott stopped 27 shots for the Senators, who have lost five of seven. Ales Kotalik opened the second round of the extra segment by firing a wrister past the glove of Elliott. Daniel Alfredsson then beat Lundqvist with a forehand-backhand deke. Both Prospal and Ottawa's Jason Spezza scored in the third round. The shootout remained tied until Parenteau lifted a shot over Elliott's glove. Milan Michalek was the last hope for the Senators and his backhand try sailed over the net.

Tyler Ennis tallied in his NHL debut and Ryan Miller made 29 saves for the Sabres, who have won three straight games. Chris Pronger and Jeff Carter found the back of the net for the Flyers, who were riding a five-game winning streak. Ray Emery allowed three goals on 25 shots in defeat.

Dustin Boyd, Eric Nystrom and Jay Bouwmeester also lit the lamp for the Flames, who have won five of six. Miikka Kiprusoff got the win with a 38-save performance, including 19 saves in the second period alone. Francois Beauchemin and Matt Stajan provided the offense for the Leafs, who have dropped three in a row. Jonas Gustavsson took the loss after yielding three goals on five shots in just under 10 minutes of play. Vesa Toskala allowed the final two scores on 17 shots over the remainder of the game.

With each team having tallied once in the first three rounds, Horton's wrister put the Panthers in front. Tomas Vokoun then denied Sean Bergenheim to preserve the victory. Cory Stillman, Stephen Weiss, Olesz and Michael Frolik each had a goal in regulation for the Panthers, who have won five of their last seven games. Vokoun finished with 36 saves in the win. Tim Jackman, Trent Hunter, John Tavares and Kyle Okposo lit the lamp for the Islanders, who have earned at least a point in four straight games (2-0-2). Dwayne Roloson stopped 38 shots through regulation and overtime.

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Jamie Langenbrunner and Cory Murphy each posted a goal and one assist, as New Jersey earned its eight consecutive victory by dispatching Washington, 5-2, at Prudential Center. Colin White, Matt Halischuk and Zach Parise also scored for the Devils, who have won 11 of their last 12 games and can take a share of the NHL record book with their 10th straight road win to start the season with a win at Philadelphia on Monday. Martin Brodeur stopped 27 shots for the win. Tomas Fleischmann and Mathieu Perreault tallied for the Capitals, who had won four in a row coming in, all without star forward Alex Ovechkin. Jose Theodore took the loss after allowing all five goals on 23 shots.

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Henrik Zetterberg notched his fourth career hat trick and finished with five points, as Detroit logged a 7-4 final against Anaheim at Joe Louis Arena. Dan Cleary scored and added two assists, while Brian Rafalski had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who claimed a third consecutive victory and won for the sixth time in their last seven. Jimmy Howard, continuing to fill in for a flu-stricken Chris Osgood, faced 23 shots and gave up four goals. Pavel Datsyuk and Darren Helm also found the back of the net. Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf put together a four-point night with a goal and three assists, extending his streak of games with an assist to 10 to further a team record. Corey Perry posted a goal and an assist, extending a points streak to 11 straight games alongside Getzlaf. The teammates are both riding the league's longest current point streaks. Bobby Ryan and Joffrey Lupul also scored while Jonas Hiller gave up six goals on 36 shots for the Ducks, who were dealt their third straight loss.
