Detroit's Zetterberg earns NHL's First Star

Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg, Atlanta forward Ilya Kovalchuk and Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller were named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending November 15.

Zetterberg earned the top star thanks to a three-goal, two-assist effort in Saturday's win over Anaheim. Detroit went 3-0 during the week, and Zetterberg ended the span with four goals and five assists.

Kovalchuk, who returned to action from a broken foot last week, took home second-star honors by notching three goals and five assists for Atlanta, which also won all three of its games.

Todd Bertuzzi scored the game-winner in overtime for the second straight game, as the Detroit Red Wings took a 3-2 win over Nashville at Sommet Center.

In the extra session, Pavel Datsyuk picked off the puck in his own end and sprung Bertuzzi with a lead pass. Bertuzzi caught up to the puck, used his left arm to fend off a defender and faked Pekka Rinne to the backhand to win the game 24 seconds into the extra session.

On Friday, Bertuzzi scored 1:07 into overtime to give Detroit a 3-2 win over Anaheim.

Alexander Semin returned to the lineup and notched the game-winning goal in the third period, as Washington extended its winning streak to five games with a 4-2 win over Philadelphia at Verizon Center. Semin, who missed the last two games with an illness, picked up his seventh goal on the year and had two assists, sparking a slumping power play by setting up a Nicklas Backstrom tally on the man advantage. Backstrom added three assists, including a set up of an Alex Ovechkin score. The Russian superstar also added an empty-net tally to take the league lead with 11 goals. Jose Theodore made 41 saves for the Capitals. Scott Hartnell and Braydon Coburn scored power-play goals for the Flyers.

Mired in a terrible offensive slump, the Detroit Red Wings will try to regain their scoring touch when they visit the St. Louis Blues for tonight's Central Division battle at Scottrade Center.

The Red Wings have been shut out in each of their last two games and have gone 153 minutes and 22 seconds without scoring a goal, the club's longest drought since March 24-29, 1977 when Detroit went 197 minutes, 58 seconds without a tally. The Wings have never been shut out in three straight regular-season games in the franchise's storied history.

Detroit was dealt a 3-0 setback Friday night by Miikka Kiprusoff and the visiting Flames. Kiprusoff stopped 40 shots for his second shutout of the season and 32nd of his career.

Tampa Bay Lightning (11-13-9) at Detroit Red Wings (17-11-5), 7:30 p.m.

The Detroit Red Wings will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games when they welcome the struggling Tampa Bay Lightning for an interconference clash at Joe Louis Arena.

The Red Wings have won three straight and four of their last five games, but they are still third in the Central, a division they have been the champion of in each of the last eight seasons.

This is the third time this season that Detroit has won three games in a row, but the defending Western Conference champs last had a four-game winning streak from March 14-20 of last season.
