Recap: Anaheim vs. Calgary

Teemu Selanne scored the only goal in the shootout, as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Calgary Flames, 3-2, at Honda Center.

Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf scored in regulation for struggling Anaheim, which won for only the second time in its last seven games overall (2-4-1). Jean- Sebastien Giguere was stellar with 41 saves in the victory.

Calgary forward Jarome Iginla continued his recent torrid offensive stretch and notched the game-tying goal with 18 seconds remaining in regulation. Iginla has now scored 12 goals in his last 10 games for the Flames, who are 2-2-2 since a four-game win streak in early November. Curtis Glencross added his fifth goal while Miikka Kiprusoff allowed two goals on 31 shots in the loss.

The Flames trailed 2-1 inside the final minute of regulation and Kiprusoff was pulled for the extra skater. Iginla took advantage of a crisp give-and-go with Olli Jokinen, who gave Iginla the puck in stride. Iginla, from the right slot near the circle, fired a low wrist shot that beat Giguere at the 19:42 mark of the third period.

After a scoreless overtime, the first two shootout rounds produced no goals, but Selanne cleanly beat Kiprusoff with a quick-stop move in front of the net. Giguere then stopped a wrist shot by Glencross to preserve the win.

"We are pretty happy with our effort tonight," said Getzlaf. "There was a little breakdown at the end, but overall we played a good hockey game. We were able to pull it out. We got our two points and move forward."

The Flames opened the scoring at the 13:44 mark of the first period. Jokinen, from his own blue line along the right half-wall, lifted a high backhand pass that floated over the neutral zone and landed near the opposite blue line.

Anaheim defenseman Nick Boynton misplayed his attempt to settle the puck on his stick, and that resulted in a clear breakaway for Glencross, who skated in all alone and beat Giguere over the shoulder with a high wrist shot.

Over two minutes later, at 15:47, Ryan's 10th goal knotted the contest.

Only 68 seconds later, the Ducks moved ahead on Getzlaf's fourth goal of 2009-10. A shot by Ryan Whitney from the left point was saved by Kiprusoff, but the rebound sat loose near the top of the crease and Getzlaf lit the lamp.

"They had a good start and they scored a quick two goals," said Kiprusoff. "It's tough to come back after that, but We worked hard and played a pretty strong game."

After a mostly defensive second period for both teams, the best scoring chance for the Flames throughout the final 20 minutes (until Iginla's goal) occurred with 4:15 to play.

During 4-on-4 action, Calgary's Mark Giordano was all alone in the slot and had a great look with a one-timer, but the shot sailed high and wide of the net. Giordano probably could have skated the puck closer and attempted a wrist shot from between the circles, but instead opted for the one-timer slap shot that missed.
