Area fishing report

Saltwater

Oregon Inlet

Offshore, dolphin fishing has been strong, while big eye tuna, yellowfin, blackfin and wahoo are being caught. Near shore, some large blues are biting, along with some false albacore and lots of Spanish mackeral. Inshore, drum, flounder and trout are being hooked. Buxton/Hatteras

Offshore, good sized dolphin and wahoo have been biting, while some blue marlin and sailfish are being caught. Inshore, red drum fishing has been strong. Ocracoke/Portsmouth

Cape Lookout/Bogue Inlet

Topsail Island

Blues, Spanish mackerel, sea mullets and drum are biting near the piers and in the surf. On the sound side, sheepshead and flounder can be found. Contact: East Coast Discount Tackle 910-328-1887, www.eastcoastsports.com.

Wilmington/ Wrightsville Beach

Inshore and around the inlet, flounder and s peckled trout are biting. Live bait has been effective. In the surf, red drum, bluefish and Spanish mackerel are being hooked. Contact: Tex’s Tackle 910-791-1763, www.texstackle.com.

Southport/Sunset Beach

Offshore, wahoo, yellowfin, king mackerel, mahi-mahi, amberjack and cobia are being hooked. Near shore, blue fish, black bass, flounder and shark can be found. Contact: Dutchman Creek Bait & Tackle 910-457-1221; or www.oifishingcenter.com.

Freshwater

Falls Lake

Bass are biting around 10-15 feet and are being hooked with Carolina rigs. White bass and crappie can be found around 8-10 feet and have been biting live minnows and eels, while catfish are being caught near the bottom. Jordan Lake

Bass and crappie are biting at 10-14 feet with soft plastics and spinner bait. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Water level: normal 216, Wednesday 217.30, full pool 240. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101; Crosswinds Marina 919-362-5391.

Kerr Lake

Catfish and stripers are being caught in the creeks, while crappie can be found in depths of 15-24 feet. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 301.16, full pool 320. Contact: Bobcat’s Bait & Tackle 434-374-8381; www.kerrlake.com.

Lake Wheeler

Bass and crappie are biting at 10-14 feet with soft plastics and spinner bait. Catfish are biting near the bottom and are being caught with worms and shrimp. Contact: Wilsonville General Store 919-362-7101.

Shearon Harris Lake

Bass are biting anywhere from the bank to 20 feet and are being caught with crank bait. Crappie can be hooked around 10-20 feet and are biting minnows. Contact: The Tackle Box 919-557-8255; www.wmi.org.
